Melanie Collins discovered from a fairly early age that her passion for sports can be better used in television than on a stadium. Coming from a family with a long tradition in sports, she grew to love everything revolving around these competitions, and by the time she joined Penn State, she knew exactly what she wanted to do. That’s why she didn’t wait for graduation to work as a reporter for WPSU-TV and as a host for “Let’s talk sports.”
While others wait for opportunities to arise, Melanie Collins went searching for them, and she was first in line when Big Ten Network needed a freelance reporter. This can be regarded as a turning point in her profession and the beginning of a career that has many years in front of it. What is particularly impressive is how Melanie Collins succeeded in shifting from one job to another without leaving anything unsolved.
As soon as the football season was over, she joined Turner Sports and covered the NBA playoffs, interviewing some of the game’s icons. Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh or Nate Robinson is just a few of those stars she interviewed and despite her young age, she showed no emotion or hesitation. After the playoffs were over, she returned to Big Ten Network and expanded her activity to include TV shows besides the regular sports coverage. The future can bring anything, but Melanie Collins will surely remain committed to reporting from major sports events, keeping the spirit of competition alive.
